Bentley Potter of Kingston founded Lost Pets of the Hudson Valley on Facebook in June 2012 after he saw a “lost dog” poster taped to a pole.

Today, the Facebook page has 55,000 followers, and together with the website (, has been responsible for reuniting thousands of missing animals with their owners.

The Kingston businessman, whose family owns Potter Brothers Ski Shop, said he has a team of seven volunteers, who monitor the site around the clock. The outcomes, for the most part, have been good, Potter said.
