Emma Stafford

Emma Stafford’s little blue box on Lucas Avenue has had a big impact on Kingston’s needy. Known as Emma’s Free Little Pantry, the box offers food, books, hygiene products and school supplies for families in need.

The 9-year-old Saugerties girl encouraged her father, Adam, to build and model it after the little, free libraries she saw while vacationing with her family in North Carolina.

Emma, who won a youth service award for her pantry last December, even placed a second one in Uptown near Ecce Terra restaurant. Vandals destroyed it last fall, leading to its removal, but Emma said she would like to see it come back to life.

Her goal is to build more and place them in strategic areas around the county. Emma credits her parents for her empathy toward others.
